Do you have strong interpersonal and communication skills? Are you enthusiastic to affect positive change for people living with diabetes?
The Canadian Diabetes Association is looking for dedicated volunteers who are passionate about increasing awareness of diabetes, advocating on behalf of people living with diabetes and raising the profile of the Canadian Diabetes Association in the community. You will act as a primary point of contact within your community and use your networking skills to facilitate information sharing.
If you enjoy developing and maintaining community relationships and would like to do that while creating a positive impact in the fight against Diabetes, this is the role for you!
The purpose of this role is to advocate on behalf of all Albertans living with diabetes by sharing their diabetes story, participating actively in all advocacy campaigns and events, liaising with elected officials in their ridings, and promoting the Association’s advocacy initiatives through your own networks.
Advocates receive training and updates on all CDA programs and initiatives, and are guided and supported in their work by volunteer Leads and CDA staff members.
Skills & Qualifications:
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills
• Good knowledge of your local community
• Knowledge, or willingness to learn, of the provincial and federal political environment and public policy arena
• Self-motivated and willing to network, attend events, etc within your community
• Knowledge of diabetes and the Canadian Diabetes Association, or willingness to learn
• Able to accurately convey information in an engaging manner and, with training, to speak confidently on CDA programs and services, advocacy priorities, and key messages
• Comfortable with using social media, or willingness to learn
• Positive attitude, enthusiasm and a desire to affect positive change for people living with diabetes
Commitment:
• ½ day to 1 day per month on average (e.g. delivering a presentation, attending an event or promoting advocacy campaigns in the community)
• Attendance at 1 to 2 advocacy training days/events per year
• Must be available to liaise regularly via email with volunteer leads and/or CDA staff members
