Position: We are looking for a character rigging expert. Must have experience in Maya with this kind of work.
About Us:
DEFEND is a volunteer-run nonprofit dedicated to reducing risks for children and vulnerable people online. We are currently building 65square, the world’s healthiest social media and dating platform, designed with game-like features and characteristics of an MMO. Our goal is to create a safer, more positive online space for users.
Role Description:
The 3D Character Rigger will be responsible for creating and implementing rigging systems for 3D characters used in animations and interactive media. This role is crucial in ensuring that our characters are not only visually appealing but also functional for animation purposes. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of character anatomy, motion principles, and the technical skills necessary to bring characters to life.


Key Responsibilities:
Character Rigging:
Develop and implement rigging solutions for 3D characters using industry-standard software (e.g., Autodesk Maya, Blender).
Create skeletons, control rigs, and skin weights that allow for realistic movement and deformation.
Collaboration:
Work closely with animators, modelers, and other artists to ensure that rigs meet artistic vision and technical requirements.
Participate in team meetings to discuss project goals, timelines, and feedback on character performance.
Technical Problem Solving:
Troubleshoot rigging issues as they arise during the animation process.
Optimize rigs for performance in various applications (e.g., games, films).
Documentation:
Maintain clear documentation of rigging processes and techniques for future reference.
Provide training or support to team members on rigging best practices.
Quality Assurance:
Conduct tests on rigs to ensure functionality across different animations.
Iterate on designs based on feedback from animators and directors.
Qualifications:
MUST be 18 years and above.
Bachelor’s degree in Animation, Computer Graphics, Fine Arts, or a related field.
Proven experience in 3D character rigging with a strong portfolio showcasing previous work.
Proficiency in rigging tools within software such as Maya or Blender.
Understanding of anatomy and movement principles relevant to character animation.
Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively within a team environment.
Passion for storytelling through visual media aligned
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working in non-profit environments or projects focused on social impact.
Familiarity with game engines (e.g., Unity or Unreal Engine) is a plus.
Knowledge of scripting languages (Python/MEL) for automating tasks within rigging workflows.
