About Us:
DEFEND is a volunteer-run nonprofit dedicated to reducing risks for children and vulnerable people online. We are currently building 65square, the world’s healthiest social media and dating platform, designed with game-like features and characteristics of an MMO. Our goal is to create a safer, more positive online space for users.


Role Description:
The Grant Writer/Fundraising Specialist will play a crucial role in securing funding for our programs and initiatives. This position involves researching, writing, and submitting grant proposals to various funding sources, including government agencies, foundations, and corporations. The ideal candidate will have strong writing skills, attention to detail, and a deep understanding of the nonprofit sector.
Key Responsibilities:
Research Funding Opportunities:
Identify potential grant opportunities that align with the organization’s mission and programs.
Maintain an updated database of funding sources and deadlines.
Grant Proposal Development:
Write compelling grant proposals that clearly articulate the organization’s goals, objectives, and needs.
Collaborate with program staff to gather necessary data and information for proposals.
Ensure all proposals meet funder guidelines and requirements.
Budget Preparation:
Work with finance staff to develop accurate budgets for grant proposals.
Justify budget items in alignment with project goals.
Reporting and Compliance:
Prepare timely reports for funders as required by grant agreements.
Monitor compliance with grant requirements throughout the project lifecycle.
Fundraising Strategy Development:
Assist in developing comprehensive fundraising strategies that include grants, individual donations, corporate sponsorships, and events.
Participate in fundraising events as needed.
Collaboration and Communication:
Work closely with other team members to ensure cohesive messaging across all fundraising efforts.
Build relationships with funders through effective communication and follow-up.
Continuous Improvement:
Stay informed about trends in nonprofit funding and best practices in grant writing.
Attend workshops or training sessions related to grant writing and fundraising as appropriate.
Qualifications
MUST be 18 years and above.
Bachelor’s degree in English, Communications, Nonprofit Management, or a related field preferred.
Proven experience in grant writing or fundraising within the nonprofit sector.
Strong research skills with the ability to analyze complex information.
Excellent written communication skills with attention to detail.
Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; experience with any donor management software is a plus.
