About Us:
DEFEND is a volunteer-run nonprofit dedicated to reducing risks for children and vulnerable people online. We are currently building 65square, the world’s healthiest social media and dating platform, designed with game-like features and characteristics of an MMO. Our goal is to create a safer, more positive online space for users.


Role Description:
The Contract or Technology Lawyer(s) will play a crucial role in ensuring that all legal aspects related to video production, distribution, and intellectual property rights are thoroughly addressed. This position requires expertise in contract law, technology law, and an understanding of non-profit operations.


Key Responsibilities:
Contract Drafting and Review:
Draft, review, and negotiate contracts with videographers, editors, and other third-party service providers.
Ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations governing contracts within the non-profit sector.


Intellectual Property Management:
Advise on copyright issues related to video content creation.
Assist in securing necessary licenses for music, images, and other media used in video segments.
Develop policies for the protection of intellectual property generated by the organization.
Technology Compliance:
Provide guidance on data privacy laws as they pertain to video production (e.g., GDPR, CCPA).
Ensure that all technology platforms used for video hosting comply with relevant legal standards.
Risk Management:
Identify potential legal risks associated with video content production and distribution.
Develop strategies to mitigate identified risks through appropriate contractual provisions.
Collaboration with Internal Teams:
Work closely with the marketing and communications team to align legal considerations with organizational goals.
Provide training sessions for staff on legal best practices related to video content creation.
Research and Analysis:
Stay updated on emerging trends in technology law that may impact non-profit organizations.
Conduct legal research as needed to support organizational initiatives.
Qualifications:
MUST be 18 years and above.
Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
Active license to practice law in [specify jurisdiction].
Minimum of [X years] experience in contract law or technology law; experience in non-profit sector preferred.
Strong understanding of intellectual property rights as they relate to digital media.
