Overview:
The Friends of the Saskatoon Afforestation Areas Inc. (FSAA) are seeking a dedicated volunteer to bring an Indigenous perspective to the heritage and ecology of the Richard St. Barbe Baker Afforestation Area (RSBBAA) and George Genereux Urban Regional Park (GGURP).

As an Indigenous Knowledge Contributor, you will help shape stories for a GPS-based self-guided interpretive app that enriches the visitor experience by sharing Indigenous and Métis history, traditional knowledge, and cultural connections to these lands. The app will provide families, educators, wellness enthusiasts, and nature lovers with meaningful cross-cultural learning opportunities.

What You’ll Do:

Contribute to or edit stories highlighting Indigenous cultural, historical, and ecological perspectives.
Ensure content respectfully reflects Indigenous traditions, including ecological practices and cultural connections to the land.
Write and document engaging and accurate stories for app users.
Collaborate with FSAA and other contributors to create content in categories such as:
History & Heritage
Traditional Occupations
Flora, Fauna, and Wildlife
Environmental Protection and Stewardship
Arts and Creativity
Qualifications:

Strong knowledge of Indigenous (Nehiyawak Cree, Nakaw? Saulteaux, Yankton and Yanktonai Nakota, or Métis) cultures, especially in Treaty 6 territory.
Understanding of traditional ecological knowledge (TEK) and its relevance to conservation.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to collaborate with both Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities.
Familiarity with local Indigenous languages (Cree, Michif, Saulteaux, or Nakota) is a plus.
Preferred Experience:

Background in environmental or outdoor education.
Knowledge of the spiritual and cultural significance of land, nature, and water to Indigenous communities.

Additional Details:

Honourarium: This volunteer role offers the possibility of an honourarium.
Flexibility: Work remotely with coordination through email, Zoom, and phone.
