Remote Volunteer Opportunity: Crisis & Support Line Volunteer
Organization: Durham Rape Crisis Centre (DRCC)
Location: Remote (Home-based)
Commitment: 24 hours/month | 1-year minimum
About the Role
Support survivors of sexual violence by volunteering on the DRCC 24/7 crisis and support line. Volunteers provide crisis de-escalation, grounding techniques, and emotional support via phone and chat.
Responsibilities
Commit to four shifts per month (six hours per shift).
Provide confidential crisis support for survivors and their support persons.
Offer grounding exercises, community resources, and intake referrals.
Complete six weeks of online training (18 hours total).
Attend monthly volunteer meetings and connect with the Volunteer Coordinator for support.
Requirements
? Over 18 years old
? Access to a computer and phone
? Strong listening and communication skills
? Ability to remain calm in crisis situations
? Fluency in spoken and written English
? Must have completed DRCC counselling services for at least one year (for Crisis Line volunteers)
? Identify as a woman or non-binary person
? Must complete a police check, interview, resume submission, and Vulnerable Sector Search
